Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a cosmetic safe to the skin, maintaining the normal functions of the skin, and giving pleasant feeling to the skin, by compounding a composition obtained by esterifying 2-pyrrolidone-5-carboxylic acid and a fatty acid with a polyhydric alcohol, as an oily raw material. CONSTITUTION:A liquid or solid composition having pale yellow color and free from odor is prepared by esterifying 2-pyrrolidone-5-carboxylic acid (PCA) and one or more fatty acids selected from a straight-chain higher fatty acids (preferably >=10C fatty acid), branched higher fatty acids (preferably >=8C fatty acid), and hydroxyfatty acids with a polyhydric alcohol (having >=2 OH groups in a molecule). One or more above compositions are used as the oily raw material of the objective cosmetic. The typical reaction ratios of the above components are >=1mol of PCA and >=1mol of fatty acid per 1mol of the polyhydric alcohol. The composition is compounded in the cosmetic at a concentration of 0.5-30%.
