Abstract
PURPOSE:To miniaturize the scale of constitution and to simplify the circuit constitution of the entire optical transmission system, by using a single circuit element having both optical branching function and optical switching function. CONSTITUTION:A fiber optics 1 has a structure in which an optical signal converting element 4 is provided into an optical path between the optical signal input and output parts 2 and 3. The element 4 has both the optical branching function to branch the multiplexed signals lambda1 and lambda2 into lambda1 and lambda2 and a function to change the optical paths of lambda1 and lambda2 in accordance with the switching signal S. In other words, two optical branching filters 5 and 6 are combined with 90 deg. angle to each other for the element 4. Accordingly, the filter 5 reflects lambda1 and transmits lambda2 and vice versa with the filter 6. Thus the signals lambda1 and lambda2 can be branched into lambda1 and lambda2.
