PURPOSE:To obtain a rotary magnetic encorder in which the gap between a rotary magnetic disc and a magnetism detection element is kept constantly by projecting the fixed perimeter of the magnetism detection element in the form of a smoothly curved face on the basis of the rotary magnetic disc. CONSTITUTION:In a housing 3, a rotary magnetic disc 1 and a magnetic resistance element 2 are provided in mutually facing manner, and the fixed perimeter of the magnetic resistance element 2 is projected in the form of a smoothly curved face. Thus, when fixing them with a comparatively small gap delta, even when the rotary magnetic disc 1 is inclined, the gap delta does not become smaller than deltamin or larger than deltamax because the peripheral portion of the disc comes into contact with the spacer 3a. Therefore, the gap delta can be kept constantly.
