Abstract
PURPOSE:To reinforce the core juncture of plastic clad optical fibers while relieving the stress concentrating in the foamed parts thereof in the stage of connecting and reinforcing said juncture with plastics by giving a specific temp. gradient to molding dies in their longitudinal direction and molding the plastics while defoaming the same. CONSTITUTION:Molding dies 40a, 40b are used in order to reinforce and connect the optical fiber cores (juncture) 2 of plastic clad fibers 1a, lab (nylon, etc.) by molding. Plastics 6a, 6b, 6c and glass fibers 7a, 7b for the purpose of reinforcement are put in the juction B between the dies 40a, 40b and overflows 8 having radiation fins are provided to both ends of the dies. The plastics are heated and molded by these dies while the temp. thereof is so controlled as to have a temp. gradient of DELTAT toward both ends l/2 with the central part as 0 in the direction of the length (l). Since the viscosity eta of the plastics is low at 0 in the central part and high at both ends l/2, the foam in the juncture B is pushed out and removed to both ends. There is no foam in the juncture and the concentration of stress owing to the presence of foam is prevented.
