Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the wettability of an aqueous highly concentrated alkaline solution to a heat transfer surface of a heat exchanger or the like and to enhance the heat transferring ability, by adding a carboxylic acid hydrotrop and an aminocarboxylic acid surfactant to said alkaline solution.
CONSTITUTION: In carrying out heat transfer by using an aqueous highly concentrated alkaline solution containing 30W60wt% alkali constituents such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide through a heat exchanger or the like, 0.5W3 parts of a surfactant composition consisting of 5W20 parts of a carboxylic acid hydrotrop and 0.5W2 parts of an aminocarboxylic acid surface active agent is added to 100 parts of said alkaline solution, and dissolved therein to improve the wettability of said alkaline solution to a heat transfer surface of a heat exchanger or the like. Said surfactant composition may be replaced with a composition consisting of 50W20 parts of a carboxylic acid hydrotrop, 5W20 parts of an aminocarboxylic acid surfactant, and 0.5W2 parts of an anionic surfactant.
