PURPOSE:To synthesize signals by real-time processing by processing two kinds of picture signals through hardware arithmetic by connecting an XY coordinate input equipment and a digitizer to a sequence controller, and then detecting accessed picture signals by an XY coordinate detecting circuit. CONSTITUTION:To the sequence controller 23 of a picture synthesizer which synthesizes two picture signals, an XY coordinate input equipment 145, a digitizer 150, and a CRT display 154 are connected. The equipment 145 is provided with function keys 148 for specifying the X and Y axes of a picture area, ten- key switches 146 for specifying coordinate values, etc. Coordinate values specified with the switches 146 and registered in the coordinate area 152 of the digitizer 150 are accessed with a stylus pen 153, and the accessed picture area is detected by an XY coordinate detecting circuit. Then, the 1st picture signal is selected selected in some area other than the accessed area, and the 2nd picture signal is in the accessed area, thereby synthesizing the 1st and 2nd picture signals.
