CONSTITUTION:Adjacent tracks on a disk D are irradiated with light beams from a semiconductor laser S through lenses L1 and L2. The semiconductor laser S generates two light beams. When a playback signal is detected while driving circuits D1 and D2 are both set in playback mode M, one light spot starts illuminating a final track and a playback signal detected by the other light spot is absent, so it is evident that this track is the final track. Then, the driving circuit D2 is placed in recording mode R and the semiconductor laser is controlled according to information to be recorded to irradiate the track with the light spot, thus controlling the focusing of the light spot and a shift in irradiation position.
