Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a silent display device as a high-speed printer, by arranging a liquid crystal panel having plural segments between a light source and a photoreceptor and controlling the light from the light source to the photoreceptor by this liquid crystal panel. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal penel 2 and a convergent optical transmission material bundle 3 are provided between a photosensitive drum 4 and a linear light source 1 which is slender in the breadth-wise directon of printing of a printer. The liquid crystal panel 2 has many segments in the print direction, and a control signal is applied to these segments to transmit or intercept the light from the light source 1 selectively. The convergent optical transmission material bundle 3 converges the light transmitted through the liquid crystal panel 2 onto the photosensitive drum 4 to display characters, patterns, etc. in accordance with the control signal. Thus, this display device displays information in a high speed without noise as a printer.
