Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent intergranular oxidation and to make pressing as an electrode easy in the stage of producing an electrode material for electron guns for cathode-ray tubes by using vacuum molten austenitic stainless steel by performing all the annealing works during production stage in a dry hydrogen atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Nonmagnetic austenitic stainless steel is used as an electrode material for electron guns for cathode ray tubes. In the case of working the ingot of vacuum molten austenitic stainless steel in the srages of scalping, forging, scalping, annealing, hot rolling, pickling, annealing, cold rolling and bright annealing in order to improve mechanical properties such as tensile strength, elongation and others required during pressing for working to eletrodes, all the annealing works are accomplished in a dry hydrogen atmosphere of <=dew point -50 deg.C, whereby the intergranular oxidation of the stainless steel material is prevented. There is no degradation of mechanical properties, and the material is worked easily to the electrodes for electron guns.
