Abstract

PURPOSE:To produe chitin fiber (film) with good formability and high tensile strength by following method in which the temperature of chitin dope prepared at low temperature (under 10 deg.C) is elevated above 10 deg.C immediately before solidifying process, and said dope is formed by a wet process. CONSTITUTION:Chitin[poly(N-acetyl-D-glucosamine)]itself, or its derivative (e. g. carboxymethyl-chitin, acetyl-chitin) is desolved at low temperature by solvents (e.g. mixture of trichloroacetic acid and trichloroethylene), and the chitin dope with 0.5-20wt% concentration is prepared and is kept at low temperature (under 10 deg.C). Next, the temperature of the chitin dope is elevated above 10 deg.C (about 35-50 deg.C is desirable) immediately before solidifying process, and then is poured into a solidification-bath (e.g. absolute acetone, absolute methanol). Thus, said fiber (film) is produced.
