Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain p-xylene selectively and effeiciently, by carrying out a heterogeneous reaction of toluene using a crystalline zeolite catalyst comprising silica, an alkali metal oxide, a chromium oxide, etc., having a specific ratio of silica/alumina.
CONSTITUTION: Toluene is subjected to a heterogeneous reaction in the presence of a crystalline zeolite catalyst having a molar ratio of silica to an alkali metal oxide and/or alkaline earth metal oxide to a chromium oxide or chromium oxide and alumina of preferably 1:(0.01W50):(2×10-7W0.1) and a molar ratio of silica to alumina of at least 10, to prepare p-xylene. In preparing the catalyst, 0.1W 10mol water-soluble heterocyclic compound such as morpholine, aminomethylmorpholine, oxazolidine is preferably added to 1mol silica.
EFFECT: The catalyst is not required to undergo a specific treatment, and the reaction proceeds at relatively low temperture.
