Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve thermal efficiency for smelting and to stabilize the operation of a smelting furnace in the stage of smelting copper matte from copper sulfide ore by providing a fine ore smelting part and a smelting slag part for smelting of lump ore provided with electrodes within the same furnace body.
CONSTITUTION: In the stage of producing copper matte from copper sulfide ore, the furnace body is segmented to a smelting part 1 and a smelting slag part 2 by means of a partition wall 8 and powdery copper sulfide ore 3 and heated air 4 are introduced into plural pieces of burners 5 for concentrate provided in the part 1, whereby the copper matte (b) of the molten mixture of Cu2S and FeS and the slag 7 consisting essentially of 2FeO.SiO2 are formed. The high temp. waste gas produced at this time passes through the underside of the wall 8 and enters the part 2, where it heats the lumplike copper ore 10 and flux 11 charged therein, thence it enters a boiler 14. In the part 2, the ore 10 and the flux 11 are smelted together with molten slag 7 by the electroheating with electrodes 9, whereby copper matte 6 is formed and the slag 7 is cleaned to recover the copper content contained therein. This slag is discharged through a waste slag port 7", and the copper matte 6 is fed to a converter by which it is refined to crude copper.
