Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the titled composition which comprises an inorganic filler of small particle diameters, an impact-absorbing polymer and polyphenylene ether (a styrenic polymer may be used together), wherein the inorganic filler is present in the impact-absorbing polymer which is dispersed in the polyphenylene ether matrix. CONSTITUTION:The technical point is to use a filler of which (1) the affinity is greater to the impact-absorbing polymer than to the polyphenylene ether and (2) the particle diameters are smaller than the dimension of the dispersed layers which the impact-absorbing layers form, e.g., precipitated CaCO3 of average particle diameter of 0.05-1mu. That is, in a matrix (A) (continuous phase) of 10- 99wt% polyphenylene ether and 80-0wt% styrenic polymer was dispersed 0.5- 50wt% impact-absorbing polymer (B) (initial elastic modulus at a room temperature of about 10<6>-10<8>dyn/cm<2>; glass transition point of about <=10 deg.), and about 0.5-60wt% above filler is incorporated in the dispersed phase of component B.
