Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to adjust the diameter of the brake shoes efficiently after assembling the brake drum assembly by a method wherein the adjustor for adjusting the diameter of the brake shoes, in which a ratchet wheel rotating device is driven by a motor, is provided in this assembly. CONSTITUTION:Arced members 32, 34, having arcs, of which radius of curvature are substantially equal to the same of the inner surface of a brake drum, may be moved to either a closed position wherein the diameter of a circle defined by the inner surface of the members becomes smaller than the inner diameter of the brake drum by a clearance therebetween, or an opening position wherein the diameter of the circle becomes larger than the inner diameter of the brake drum, by an opening and closing mechanism 80. A holding mechanism 60 keeps the brake assembly in a condition wherein a pair of shoes are surrounded by the arced members 32, 34 which are located at the opening positions thereof while the ratchet wheel rotating device 100 driven by the motor 106 rotates the ratchet wheel for the brake assembly until the shoes are contacted closely to the inner surfaces of the arced members 32, 34.
