PURPOSE: The reaction between aqueous sodium silicate and aqueous sodium aluminate is continuously carried out without back-mixing to form aluminosilicate gel and the compound is crystallized, thus producing pure X-type zeolite.
CONSTITUTION: Aqueous sodium silicate and aqueous sodium aluminate are simultaneously fed into a tubular static mixer to effect their continuous reaction without back mixing. The residence time in second, given by the equation, is set at less than 10 seconds. In the equation, a and b are the feed rates of aqueous sodium silicate and sodium aluminate in l/sec respectively and V is the capacity of the mixer in liter. The resulant aluminosilicate gel is aged to effect crystallization, thus producing X-type zeolite. Seeds are added at one of three stage: gelation, gel aging or crystallization.
