Abstract

PURPOSE:To make fixing operation of excellent fixability and releasability from powder possible without using any separate coater or the like by forming a boron nitride layer wherein crystals are oriented in the direction parallel with the surface of a metallic roller on the surface of said roller. CONSTITUTION:A heating and fixing roller 1 is constituted by containing an IR heater 7 connected to an electric power source 6 in a hollow metallic roller 5, and a boron nitride layer 8 is formed on the surface of the roller 5. This boron nitride has a laminar structure of haxagonal system and is formed by hot pressing and sintering the same on the surface of the roller 5. Thereby, the fixing operation of excellent fixability and releasability from powder is accomplished without using any separate coater or the like.
