Abstract

PURPOSE: To modify a titanium catalytic component so that the component can provide an olefin polymer having a high melt tension and a high blow up ratio, by heat-treating the specified titanium catalytic component in the presence of an inert hydrocarbon to thereby reduce its alkyl group or aryloxy group content.
CONSTITUTION: A titanium catalytic component consisting essentially of Mg, Ti, a halogen and alkoxy groups and/or aryloxy groups[e.g., compound consisting of a Mg compound of formulaI, wherein R and R' are each an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl group which can be substituted, X is a halogen, 0≤n≤2 and 0≤m, and a Ti compound of formula II, wherein R" is a hydrocarbyl group, X is a halogen and 0≤l≤4], is heat-treated at about 40W180°C in the presence of an inert hydrocarbon (e.g., propane, toluene) to reduce its alkoxy group and/or aryloxy group content. By use of a combination of the component with an organic Al compound catalytic component, it is possible to produce, with good reproducibility of quality, a high-melt tension, high-blow up ratio olefin polymer suitable for use in inflation molding and blow molding.
