Abstract

PURPOSE: To further concentrate an aqueous soln. of high concentration and high osmotic pressure which is difficult or almost impossible to concentrate it in the past by diffusing water in an aqueous soln. of inorganic salts or organic substances of low molecular weight into a side of an aqueous soln. of high osmotic pressure through using an osmotic pressure difference.
CONSTITUTION: Through a semipermeable membrance, for example, an organic juice, is allowed to contact wigh, for example, an aqueous soln. of common salt having a higher osmotic pressure than that of said juice, so that water is allowed to diffuse from the orange juice to said solution of salt. Now, no compression on the orange juice is needed, but it is preferred that the orange juice is made to contact, as it is flowing, with the face of the membrane in order to prevent reduction of the osmotic pressure difference caused by the polarization of concentration on the face of the membrane. Since, as proceeding the diffusion of water, the concentration of said solution of salt is reduced, and so its osmotic pressure difference to the orange juice is reduced, some amount of the common salt is added to said aqueous solution of salt. Further, by this method, only water in an aqueous soln. to be treated passes through a semipermeable membrane. Thus this method is fit well to the concentration of an aqueous solution containing smell, taste, nutrition as main components, such as amino acid or ester of low molecular weight.
