Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an optical switch which is operated by a low voltage and is easy to produce, by providing an electrode in a part of the line for input light of crossing waveguides. CONSTITUTION:Ti is diffused on a lithium niobate substrate to form crossing waveguides 2 and 3 which cross at an angle of 1 deg., and an electrode 4 is provided along the input light line 2. An input light L goes straightly when no electric field is applied to the electrode, but the light L is branched selectively to the branch line 3 when a voltage is applied thereto. This optical switch is operated by applying a low voltage of several to several tens volts and is easy to produce.
