Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce a necessary space for a rotating angle position detector in a controller for positioning a spindle of a machine tool to a predetermined angular position, by constituting the position detector with magnetic members and magnetic sensors so as to make the position detector possible to be directly coupled to the spindle.
CONSTITUTION: A spindle position detector comprises a first and a second discs DIS1, DiS2 with are directly coupled to a spindle SP, a first magnetic member MAG1 fixed to the first disc DIS1, and a second magnetic member MAG2 fixed to the second disc DIS2, and a first and second magnetic sensors MS1, MS2 arranged to oppose these magnetic members, respectively. The first and second magnetic members MAG1, MAG2 are respectively divided into two halves which extend over 180°., and are magnetized so as to have inverse polarities with respect to each other. With this arrangement, rotation of the spindle causes the direction of voltage induced in the magnetic sensors MS1, MS2 energized at every polarity changes to be varied. Accordingly, the direction of the voltage changes at four 90° angular positions which can be used as signals for positioning the spindle to a predetermined position.
