Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formulaI(X is H, halogen or lower alkyl: n is 1 or 2; R1 and R2 are H, OH, lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl, lower alkoxyl, etc.).
EXAMPLE: N-Ethyl 3-(4-chlorobenzyloxy)benzamide.
USE: A herbicide, effective against barnard grass, umbrella plant, etc. which are strong injurious weeds in paddy fields, and green amaranth, large crab-grass, etc. which are strong injurious weeds in plowed fields, and other various injurious weeds without showing phytotoxicity to rice plants and soybeans.
PROCESS: A benzyl halide of formula II (Y is halogen) is reacted with a m-hydroxybenzamide derivative of formula III to give the aimed compound of formulaI. The compound of formulaIis applied in an amount in the range of 1W 2,000g/10 areas as the active constituent, and used in a formulated wettable powder, emulsion, etc. containing the compound of formulaIin an amount of 0.1W50% as the active constituent.
