Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of inspection stages considerably in the process of butt welding the edge parts on both sides of a skelp by disposing detecting coils for melting electric power in the prescribed places in said edge parts and discriminating the kinds of weld defects in accordance with the output changes thereof. CONSTITUTION:In the process of butt welding the edge parts E.E on both sides of a skelp S of an electric welded pipe P, coils CL1-CL8 for detecting welding currents are disposed in one or plural places including a starting point C for discharging of molten steel in partially molten areas B-C from the unmolten areas A-B of the parts E.E or in one or plural places including the weld junction in molten steel discharging areas C-O. In accordance with the outputs of the above-mentioned detecting coils and the results of experiment, the kinds of weld defects are discriminated. According to this method, inspection stages are reduced considerably and the efficiency is improved as compared to those in the prior art.
