Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a high-MW oxyalkylene polymer at low cost and easily, by reacting an alkylene oxide addition polymer with a specified amount of a polyfunctional halogen compound.
CONSTITUTION: An alkylene oxide addition polymer is reacted with 1/8W5 times, by mol, polyfunctional halogen compound to increase the MW of the addition polymer. The above product is then reacted with an allylic halide compound to produce a high-MW oxyalkylene polymer containing terminal allylic olefin groups. It is preferred for the production of said high-MW polymer that the halogen compound has the greatest possible functionality. Moreover, the MW of the polymer formed has a maximum value at a specified amount of a halogen compound used. That is, the maximum MW polymer is obtained by using the polyfunctional halogen compound in an amount corresponding to about 1/NW 2/N time, by mol, the formed polymer present at the end of the polymerization.
