Abstract

PURPOSE: A cutter that has cut-fiber expellers between many parallel edges is used to cut continuous long fibers into short-cut glass fiber of narrow length distribution, suitably used for FRP.
CONSTITUTION: Cutting edges 1, 1', 1"..., are positioned in parallel and in an equal interval with spacers 4, 4', 4"... and mounted on the cutter. The distance between top ends of edges 1, 1' is made equal to the desired length of short-cut glass fiber, 0.4W1.8mm. Expelling rods 6, 6', 6" are set between these edges 1, 1', 1" as expeller and fixed with the holder 7. The holder 7 is connected to the lever 8 which is slidably fitted to the cutter and is pulled upward with a spring 9. Long glass fibers are placed on the bed 3 perpendicularly to the edges 1 and the cutter is made to comes down by piston 5 to push the edges to the fibers and cut them. Then, the cutter is pulled up and the holder is pushed down with the stopper 10 through lever 8 to put out the expelling rods 6, 6' higher than the edges 1, 1' to expel short-cut fibers held between edges.
