Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent propagation of microorganisms on the surface of membrane and prevent deterioration of membrane in keeping a membrane of membrane separating device during cessation of operation by sending circulating liquid irradiated by ultraviolet rays.
CONSTITUTION: Liquid to be treated is sent to a membrane module 1 by a high pressure pump 2 and concentration and separation are effected. During cessation of operation, circulating liquid is sent into the membrane module 1 from a circulating liquid tank 3 by a pump P and the membrane is kept in wet condition. pH of the circulating liquid is adjusted with a pH adjuster 5 and particles that contaminate the membrane are removed by a suspended matter removing device 6. At the same time, ultraviolet rays are irradiated by an ultraviolet ray irradiating device 7. Sterilized water is circulated continuously and the circulation system and the membrane is maintained in a germfree condition. If necessary, hydrolysis of the membrane can be controlled by installing a heat exchanger 8 and regulating the liquid temperature to 5W30°C.
