Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the deactivation of catalyst in the preparation of the titled compound by the catalytic reaction of butadiene (BD), acetic acid, O2, etc., by keeping the amount of the vapor supplied to the BD-recovering column and the amount of the vapor distilled off from the column, recovering the unreacted BD completely, and at the same time, removing furan and acrolein from the system.
CONSTITUTION: Diacetoxybutene is prepared by the catalytic reaction of butadiene (BD), an oxygen-containing gas and acetic acid in the presence of a Pd-based catalyst. In the above reaction, (1) the reaction product is subjected to the vapor- liquid separation and a part of the vapor is supplied to the reaction zone, (2) the residual part of the vapor is absorbed in acetic acid in the BD-absorbing column, (3) the separated liquid is supplied to the BD-recovering column after reducing its pressure, (4) the BD-containing vapor is distilled off from the recovering column keeping the molar ratio of the distilled vapor to the vapor supplied together with the liquid between M×0.95 and M×1.1 wherein M is the optimum value of the molar ratio of the distilled vapor to the supplied vapor, (5) the bottom liquid containing furan and acrolein is extracted from the bottom of the recovering column, and (6) the BD-containing acetic acid is recycled to the acetoxylation process.
