Abstract

PURPOSE:To positively prevent a leak of exhaust gas by diagonally abutting honeycomb catalyst holding cushion material made of laminated steel wool and siliglass wool. CONSTITUTION:Cushion material 3 is provided between a honeycomb 4 and a casing 7 to prevent damage to the honeycomb catalyst 4. The cushion material, laminated layers of steel wool 1 and siliglass wool 2, has a high density that prevents exhaust gas from going through the cushion material by-passing the catalyst. Diagonal abutting of the ends 5 of the cushion material 3 positively prevents a leak of the exhaust gas through the abutting joint because of its slant cutting.
