Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain the surface quality level of an ingot stably at a high grade by measuring the rate of fluctuations and fluctuation time of the level of molten metal with the signal from a molten metal level gage as input, and operating the speed of fluctuations. CONSTITUTION:A sampling device 2 takes in the fluctuating conditions of the level of the molten metal in a mold at a constant timing from a molten metal level gage 1. A peak decision device 3 decides the ascending and descending peaks of the fluctuation signal take therein, and a fluctuating speed operator 4 operates the speed of fluctuations from the rate of molten metal level fluctuations and the fluctuation time corresponding to this. These are repeated successively, whereby the momentary speeds of fluctuations are operated and recorded. On the other hand, the speed of fluctuations V obtained with the operator 4 is compared with the preset reference speed of fluctuations Vs in an abnormality alarm device 5, and if these are V-Vs>0, an alarm is emitted, and marking is performed in a recording 6 and others.
