Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a working fluid for Rankine cycle, which exhibits high energy conversion efficiency, has good stability to heating and is low in toxicity and in which there is no danger of combustion, exlosion, etc., by using chlorotetrafluoroethane as a main component.
CONSTITUTION: Chloroterafluoroethane is used as a main component to prepare the desired working fluid for Rankine cycle. There are two isomers for chlorotetrafluoroethane, that is, 2-chloro-1,1,1,2-teterafluoroethane and 1-chloro-1,1,2,2- tetrafluoroethane. Any of these isomers and a mixture thereof can be used. As compared with known trichloromonofluoroethane and dichlorotetrafluoroethane, chlorotetrafluoroethane exhibits high energy conversion efficiency, and is excellent in stability in high-temperature zone. There is no danger of combustion and explosion, even though chlorotetrafluoroethane is mixed with air in any ratios.
