Abstract
PURPOSE: To detect the existence position of a vehicle, by scanning the lane image, which is obtained by the crane shot of a road, from left to right and from the top to the bottom successively and obtaining the difference between a threshold and sample values sampled in scanning directions and eliminating the noise signal due to characters on the road.
CONSTITUTION: Only picture information corresponding to a lane is extracted from picture information obtained by the crane shot of a road; and on a basis of the space differentiation between sample values corresponding to picture elements in the direction of the scanning line, a value "1" is set if the absolute value of the differential coefficient exceeds a preliminarily set threshold, and a value "0" is set otherwise. The value of a feature signal corresponding to the scanning line is set to 1 if the number of values "1" on the same scanning line exceeds a preliminarily set threshold, and this value is set to 0 otherwise. If the number of values "1" on the same scanning line coincides with or approximates a forecasted noise threshold, the feature signal corresponding to the scanning line is set to 0, and thus, the false signal due to characters or the like on the road is eliminated to extract features of the objective photography range, thus obtaining the leading position and the trailing position of a vehicle.
