Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to measure suspended radioactivity in a nuclear power plant, etc. with rapidity, safety and high accuracy, by executing the measuring operation in such a manner as to transfer a capsule, which contains a filtering paper on which dust is captured, through a pneumatic tube, open the capsule and measure radioactivity contained in dust captured on the filtering paper. CONSTITUTION:When air is sucked in by a suction pump 15 on a measurement taking location 13, dust suspending in the air is captured by a dust filtering paper 17. This filtering paper 17 is packed with a clean vinyl bag, etc. by a paper protecting device 19, and then, it is contained in a capsule 23 by means of a paper containing device 21. The capsule 23 is then transferred through a pneumatic tube 25 by a suction blowr 24' to a radioactivity measuring chamber 26 which is kept under a low background environment, where the capsule is unpacked and radioactivity contained in the dust captured on the filtering paper is measured by a radioactivity detector 28. By employing this mechanism, which eliminates necessity of using a long sampling pipeline, etc., and the capsule sampling system, it is possible to execute measurement of radioactivity with rapidity, safety and yet high accuracy.
