Abstract
PURPOSE:To mount an upper electrode of a piezoelectric element of a probe for sound wave perfectly and surely to a piezoelectric material with a prescribed sectional area by using a liquid metallic ball for said electrode. CONSTITUTION:A crystal 1 which is a sound wave propagating medium having a hollow hole formed in one end part is fixed to a case 7, and an electrode holder 10 of the construction permitting horizontal movement of a mercury ball 9 by means of set screws 8 is inserted therein. an electrode 11 made of a carbon rod is mounted to an electrode holder 10. a spherical hole for storing the mercury ball is provided in the end part of the electrode 11. Thereby, the contacting of the mercury ball 9 with the piezoelectric material is accomplished surely, and the movement within the horizontal plane is possible and therefore setting thereof in the position of the electrode 4 and on the axis of the recessed hole is made possible, and the generation of ultrasonic waves under optimum conditions is made possible. It is possible to set the diameter d of the recessed hole and the diameter D of the electrode 4 easily to d=D by increasing and decreasing the amt. of the mercury used in accordance with the varying sizes of the bore of the recessed hole.
