Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the positioning of a crankcase made of synthetic resin and split into a right and a left portions as to the axis of the cylinder or into an upper and a lower portions as to the axis of a crankshaft, by providing positioning protrusions on one of the portions of the crankcase and positioning holes in the other. CONSTITUTION:The crankcase 3 of an engine 1 is split into a right and a left portions as to the axis of the cylinder 3 and made of molded synthetic resin such as fiberglass-reinforced polybutylene terephthalate, the acoustic transmissivity, weight and thermal conductivity of which are low. The upper and lower parts of the contact surfaces CS of the right and left portions 11, 12 of the crankcase 3 are provided with positioning protrusions 25 and positioning holes 27. The positioning protrusions 25 are provided with tapped holes for clamping both the portions 11, 12 of the crankcase 3 on each other.
