Abstract
PURPOSE:To decrease the influence of radiations from other than an object and to improve the accuracy of distance detection by disposing a photodetector receiving the radiations reflected from the object and an other photodetector having a photodetecting surface of such a shape as to encircle the photodetecting surface of said detector and constituting a circuit in such a way that the electric outputs thereof are in opposition to each other. CONSTITUTION:The circumference of a photodetector for detection of the signal light receiving the radiations reflected from an object is encircled with a photodetector for canceling noise of roughly the same characteristics and photodetecting area and a circuit is so connected that the electrical outputs of these photodetectors are in opposition to each other. For example, a photodetector 5 for detection of signal light and a photodetector 11 for cancelling noise separated by means of an insulating region 12 on the same chip are formed. Since 5 and 11 connected in mutually opposite directions, the electromotive forces negate to each other upon incidence of the radiations other than from the target, and the output of an operational amplifier 10 is virtually eliminated, thus the detection waveform for the radiation from a radiation source 3 is extremely sharp.
