Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled novel crystalline polymer having improved heat resistance, flame retardance, mechanical and electrical properties in both films and molded articles, capable of being polymerized in molten state and molded in molten state, consisting of a specific structure unit.
CONSTITUTION: The desired polymer consisting of a structure unit shown by the formula (Ar is p-phenylene group or 4, 4'-biphenylene group) is obtained by melt polymerization at 270W350°C, for example, by (A) a polymerization through removal of acetic acid wherein hydroquinone diacetate or 4,4'-diacetoxy biphenyl and 3,3'-(p-phenylenedioxy)dibenzoic acid are used or by (B) a polymerization through removal of phenol wherein hydroquinone or 4,4-dihydroxy biphenyl is reacted with 3,3'-(p-phenylenedioxy)dibenzoic acid diphenyl ester in the presence of a polymerization catalyst (e.g., titanium tetrabutoxide, etc.).
USE: Filters, heat-resistant electrical insulation, cover for electrical equipment, fibers for rubber reinforcement, etc.
