Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an electrophotographic printer of a variable scanning density, by deflecting the light beam by an acoustic optical deflector, which is operated in accordance with a light beam scanning changing means which changes the scanning period, to scan a photosensitive drum. CONSTITUTION:When output signals from a facsimile FAX and a CPU are inputted, a video signal VID and scanning density designating signal DEN are generated from a control circuit CNTL. A laser LB modulated by this signal VID passes through an acoustic optical deflector CRY, where the scanning period is controlled by a scanning oscillator SSG of a printer PRT, to become a deflected scanning light of a prescribed period and scans a photosensitive drum, thus printing an electrophotograph. This oscillator SSG is controlled by a scanning signal SIG from a scanning control circuit operated in accordance with the signal DEN, and the light beam deflection period is adjusted to a desired value, and easy and high-precision electrophotographic printer of a variable scanning density is obtained with the constitution using no rotary mirrors.
