Abstract

PURPOSE: A specific hydrophilic agent and a water-soluble vinyl compound are applied to the surface of polyester fiber and the resultant fiber is heat treated to produce polyester with increased durability and permanent hydrophilic property.
CONSTITUTION: Polyester fiber such as filament or staple fiber is treated with (A) a processing agent containing polyalkylene oxide segments as a hydrophilic component, preferably polyester-polyalkylene glycol copolymer and (B) a water- soluble vinyl compound, preferably acrylic or methacrylic acid or acrylic or methacrylic acid amide on the surface and heat treated, preferably at 95W240°C to produce the objective fiber.
