Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent any separator from becoming loose and being shifted, and prevent any short circuit or the like which might be caused due to jumping of a plate by joining the side surfaces of separators, between which the plate is interposed, by use of an acid- and oxidation-proof tape provided with an adhesive. CONSTITUTION:A separator 4 on which a glass mat 3 is affixed is interposed between a negative and a positive plate 1 and 2 so that the mat 3 touches the plate 2, thereby making a unit. Then, a necessary numbers of units are superposed so as to form a plate group. Next, the side surfaces of separators 4, between which each positive plate is interposed, are joined with a soft adhesive tape 5, which is made of polypropylene or the like having acid and oxidation resisting property; a pressure sensitive adhesive or the like is stuck on the back of the tape 5. Since the separators 4 are larger than the plates 2, they are joined with the tape 5 placed on their side surfaces by applying slight pressure by means of a movable roller. Owing to the above constitution, the separator 4 can be prevented from becoming loose and being shifted. Consequently, any short circuit which might be caused between the plates 2 due to jumping of the plate 2 can be prevented.
