Abstract

PURPOSE:To determine optically an antigen-antibody reaction with high sensibility without accompanying nonspecific agglutination, by using a latex reagent obtained by treatment of styrene copolymer latex. CONSTITUTION:Styrene and <=10wt% of that of sodium styrene sulphonate is copolymerized in an aqueous medium at 50-100 deg.C for about 5-50hr using a persulphate (for example sodium persulphate) as an initiator in the absence of an emulsifier. The obtained latex is heated at about 50-100 deg.C for about 15-100hr on an alkaline condition of about 7.5-12.5% pH to form a single dispersion latex having 0.05-2mu average particle size. The latex is sensitized by contacting with an antibody (or antigen) at about 20-37 deg.C in an aqueous solvent, and treated with a serum contg. sensitized antibody (or antigen), that is an antiserum to obtaind a latex reagent. The antigen-antibody reaction is determined optically by using the above-mentioned reagent.
