Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress the scale formation in a multizone type continuous heating furnace, and prevent the noncombustion of fuel by lowering the air ratio of soaking zones to a reducing atmosphere and making the air ratio of heating zones higher thereby heating slabs and the like in said furnace. CONSTITUTION:In heating slabs and the like in a multizone type continuous heating furnace, the air ratio of soaking zones is set at 0.6-0.95 to make a reducing furnace, and the air ratio of heating zones is made higher than that in the prior art, for example, to about 1.05-1.4. When the furnace is operated in this way, the generation of scale in the soaking zone is suppressed and the unburned fuel is burned in the heating zones.
