There are 28 inputs 41-48 of sides obtained by connecting adjacent point inputs with straight lines, and 26 alphabets, numbers, etc., are expressed easily. Feature parts regarding capital letters of alphabets and numbers are shown by solid lines in the figure, and have combinations that other characters do not have. As a character-shape pattern registered in a memory circuit, only those feature parts are used, and a handwriting input is compared with only the feature parts, thereby decreasing memory capacity and shortening comparison time.
