Abstract
PURPOSE:To exfoliate the optical fiber coatig in a simple and assured way without requiring any special skill, by setting a pair of holding blocks of optical fiber opposite to each other with their grooves and blades conformed with each other respectively. CONSTITUTION:The edge part of an optical fiber F is fitted into grooves 2B and 3B provided on butting faces 2A and 3A of open holding blocks 2 and 3 respectively. The faces 2A and 3A are conformed with each other by the spring of a hinge 4 to hold the fiber F. For the fiber F held between the blocks 2 and 3, the outer circumference of the coatings is cut into a ring shape by cutting blades 2E and 3E provided on the butting faces. Then the fiber F is pulled out of the holding blocks to remove the coating of the fiber F.
