PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer capable of giving a molded article having improved dimensional accuracy without causing the shrinkage on crosslinking, by introducing specific bicycloortho ester groups into the benzene nuclei of styrene units in a styrene polymer.
CONSTITUTION: A bicycloortho ester compound of formula II (R is lower alkyl) is reacted with a styrene (co)polymer having chloromethyl groups in the benzene nuclei of the styrene units{formulaI[(A)x are monomeric units constituted of an etylenically unsaturated compound, e.g. acrylonitrile units]}and sodium chloride is removed to give the aimed polymer consisting of constituent units expressed by formula III (x and y are molar fractions of the respective constituent units).
