Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a separator having excellent separating capability by a method wherein an exciting coil for increasing the settling velocity of a magnetic pulverulent material is provided in a passage for water to be treated containing the magnetic pulverulent material. CONSTITUTION:The water to be treated containing the magnetic pulverulent material is fed into a separator main body 1 via an inlet 2 and is taken out through a process pipe 4. An iron core 5 in the main body 1 is furnished with the exciting coil 6 for constituting a polyphase AC winding to generate lines of magnetic force 8 directed downwardly. A plurality of slanted plates 12 slanted to one side are provided in the passage 10 for the water to be treated along the passage 10 so that the magnetic pulverulent material suspended in the water flowing through the passage 10 is settled downwards, descends along the plates 12 and is collected at a lower part of the passage 10. The pulverulent material is then discharged into a collecting header 19 for separated water. The separated water with a high concentration of the pulverulent material is fed into a magnetic filter 22, where the pulverulent material is trapped by a magnetized matrix and the separated water is fed into the pipe 4.
