Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure direct bilirubin involved in body fluids accurately without being affected by indirect bilirubin, by incorporating stabilized diazonium salt in a range of specified concentration together with hydrochloric acid in a reagent. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution containing 0.05-1.0millimol/l stabilized diazonium salt such as p-sulfobenzenediazonium-1,5-naphthalenedisulfonic acid salt (NDDS) and containing hydrochloric acid in the range of 0.01-0.1N is used for a reagent for measuring direct bilirubin (ester combination product of propionic acid of side chain of free bilirubin and glucuronic acid). The quantity of direct biliburin is measured accurately by this reagent not affected by the concentration of indirect bilirubin (free bilirubin) in body fluids (blood serum). Thus, it is used for the decision and medical treatment of various jaundice or a hemolytic disease of an unborn baby.
