Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a coated arc welding electrode which provides good productivity and exhibits superior welding workability by compounding a binder consisting of a specific ratio of water glass with a coating raw material contg. a specific ratio of iron powder, and coating this on the outside circumference of a mild steel core. CONSTITUTION:A coating raw material contg. iron powder at 25-65wt% based on the total weight of the coating material, and a binder of 2.5-7.5wt% solid weights based on the total weight of the coating material are kneaded and this mixture is coated on the outside circumference of a mild steel core. In this case, slag forming agents, arc stabilizing agents, deoxidizing agents, etc. which are known heretofore are properly selected and used for the coating material. It is an essential requirement to use water glass of 2.0-3.0 molar ratio[SiO2/ (Na2O+K2O)]for the binder. As a result, the high iron powder coated electrode which does not cause dry cracking despite reduction drying time by continuous drying is obtained.
