Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare cattle feed having excellent growth-promoting activity to cattle and safe to the man who eats the meat of the cattle, by adding a specific amout of a cyclic peptide antibiotic substance, permetin A, produced by the bacteria belonging to Bacillus genus, to a feed.
CONSTITUTION: The cyclic peptide antibiotic substance, permetin A, of formula (Dab is 2,4-Diaminobutyric acid) is added to a cattle feed composed of barley, wheat, maize, bean cake, fish meal, etc. at a concentration of 2W20ppm to obtain the objective feed. The permetin A is prepared by culturing Bacillus circulans AJ3902 (IFO13894) in a nutrient medium and separating from the culturing liquid. It has broad antibacterial spectrum, exhibits strong antibacteria 1 activities against Gram-negative bacteria as well as Gram-positive bacteria, and has excellent growth- promoting activity to animals.
