Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of electrolytic deposit and to perform the electrolysis at a high current efficiency for a long operation time in the manufacture of hypochlorite by the electrolysis of sea water, by using vertical electrolytic cell, where electrode group units are arranged one upon another at short distances. CONSTITUTION:Many electrode group units 4, made by laminating many anode plates 2 and cathode plates 3 at 2-3mm. intervals, are arranged in a vertical electrolytic cell 1 vertically at 100-500mm. intervals 5. the anode terminal and the cathode terminal of each electrode group unit are connected respectively to current collectors 6, 7, and the units are connected is series by means of conductors 8. The bottom of the electrolytic cell 1 is tapered at 9 downward, and the sea water enters the cell 1 through an inlet 10 and moves upward, so that no deposit is formed.
