Abstract

PURPOSE: When a yarn is made from a molten substance, the fluctuation in the yarn speed is measured by the use of a frequency modulation type noncontacting speed detector to detect the yarn uneveness with high accuracy.
CONSTITUTION: The feed of a molten substance is controlled with metering pump 1 and the substance is spun from spinneret 2 and wound up to revolving drum 3 wherein the fluctuation in yarn speed is measured with speed sensor 5, which is a frequency modulation type noncontacting speed detector to obtain signals of the yarn uneveness of the man-made fiber. At the same time, preferably, the fluctuation in the thoroughput of the molten substance is measured with throughput sensor 4. These signals are processed in yarn-speed detecting circuit 6 and signal processing circuit 7 and the yarn uneveness is continuously detected. The speed sensor 5 is a Doppler type in which the yarn speed is measured without contact with the yarn utilizing the heterodyne effect between original frequency f0 and modified frequency (f) which has undergone Doppler shift caused by the yarn speed V.
