Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a conductive high-strength aluminum alloy of nonheat treatment type, having excellent strength and excellent electric conductivity, by adding definite amounts of Fe, Si, Mg, and rare earth elements to Al.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy consists of 0.25W0.5% Fe, 0.1W0.2% Si, 0.03W0.3% Mg, 0.03W0.5% rare earth elements, e.g., one or a mixture of La, Ce, Y, etc., and Al as remnant. The addition of a definite amount of these rare earth elements, combined with their synergistic effect with Fe, Si, and Mg, results in an increase in strength without causing lowering its conductivity. The alloy is manufactured with good efficiency because of its nonheat treatment type and also is applicable as a conductor for power transmission line.
